1. What is something special about your home that makes it feel welcoming for youth? What makes our home feel welcoming for the youth is the sense of safety and acceptance they experience the moment they walk in. We create an environment where youth feel heard, respected, and free to be themselves without fear of judgment. Our home is structured but flexible, with clear expectations balanced by warmth, encouragement, and fun. We also make space for connection—shared meals, conversations, and activities so youth feel included and valued as part of the family rather than like guests.
2. What do you enjoy doing with youth in your home? We enjoy spending time with the youth through everyday activities that help build connection and confidence, such as cooking meals together, playing games, doing crafts, we also value simply talking and listening whether that’s helping with schoolwork, discussing goals, or checking in about their day. We enjoy encouraging their interests and celebrating their achievements, big or small.
3. How would you describe the atmosphere or personality of your home?
Our home has a calm, easygoing vibe. It’s a place where youth can feel comfortable, safe, and just be themselves. We keep a good balance between having routines and staying flexible, so things don’t feel too strict. There’s a lot of open communication, respect, and encouragement, and we try to keep things positive and supportive while still having fun and enjoying everyday moments together.
4. What values or expectations do you focus on in your home?
In our home, we focus on respect, honesty, and responsibility, while also emphasizing kindness and communication. We encourage youth to be themselves, express their thoughts, and treat others with respect. Overall, we aim to create a space where youth feel supported, learn positive habits, and know they’re valued.
5. What is one thing you want youth to know before they come to your home? We want the youth to know that they are welcome here just as they are. This is a safe, supportive space where they’ll be respected, listened to, and cared for. They don’t have to have everything figured out. Our home is a place to settle in, be comfortable, and know they’re not alone.
